A4 graph paper, sized properly
A4 is the standard paper size in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and most of Latin America: 210 × 297 mm. This sheet is laid out for A4 from the start, so the grid fills the page evenly with whole squares instead of being a resized Letter template.
Choosing the square size
| Grid | Squares on A4 portrait | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 2 mm | 95 × 134 | Engineering sketches, fine plots (millimetre paper style) |
| 5 mm | 38 × 53 | School maths, notes and graphs |
| 1 cm | 19 × 26 | Primary maths, area and counting |
Printing on a US printer
If your printer only has Letter paper loaded, an A4 sheet will lose a few millimetres at the bottom. The squares stay the right size, but switch Paper to Letter to fit the whole grid on the page.
Getting exact millimetres
Print at 100% or Actual size, never “Fit to page”. Then check the 1 cm mark on the ruler at the bottom of the sheet. For browser-by-browser steps, read how to print graph paper at actual size.
