What dot grid paper is for
Dot grid paper replaces the lines of graph paper with small dots at each grid point. You still get a guide for straight lines, columns and spacing, but the page looks almost blank once you have written on it. That makes dot paper popular for:
- Bullet journals and planners: build calendars, habit trackers and lists without fighting printed lines.
- Sketching and UI wireframes: the dots keep boxes and buttons aligned while drawings stay clean.
- Hand lettering and calligraphy practice: use the dots to keep letter height and slant consistent.
- Maths: plot points, draw shapes on a lattice and explore area and symmetry, especially with younger students.
Which dot spacing should I choose?

Dot size and colour
Dots should guide your pen, not compete with it. Light dots in Gray almost disappear in photos and scans of finished pages. Choose Regular or Bold with Black if you will photocopy the sheet, because very small pale dots can vanish on a copier.
Printing a planner or notebook insert
Pick A5 under Paper to print pages that fit A5 binders and notebooks, or print A4 and cut in half. Turn on Narrow margins in More options for a few more rows on each page. As with any sheet here, print at 100% / Actual size so a 5 mm grid really measures 5 mm; the printing guide shows the setting in each browser.
Dot paper or graph paper?
Use dot paper when the finished page matters, such as journals, sketches and lettering. Use graph paper when you need to count squares or plot data accurately, and isometric paper for 3D drawings. For writing practice, lined paper is usually easier, and for a completely empty page use a blank PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is dot grid paper the same as dotted paper?
Yes. Dot grid, dotted and dot paper all describe the same layout: a square grid of dots. Isometric dot paper is different, with dots in a triangular pattern.
Can I download dot grid paper as an image?
Yes. Below the main buttons choose PNG for a high-resolution image (300 dpi) or SVG for a vector file you can resize in Canva, Word or note-taking apps such as GoodNotes.
